1:700 Imperial Chinese Navy Torpedo Gunboat Fei Ying 1895

The Feiying torpedo gunboat was a destroyer built in 1895 by the Vulcan Shipyard in Germany. Originally intended for the Spanish Navy, the vessel was transferred to China due to the Qing Empire's urgent need to strengthen its navy. It arrived in China in December of the same year.

The ship had a displacement of approximately 620-850 tons, a speed of 22 knots, and was armed with two 4.1-inch Krupp L/23 guns, three torpedo tubes, and six 6-pounder guns.

Feiying frequently patrolled the South China Sea during its service with the Guangdong Fleet, taking advantage of its high speed. In 1909, Naval Commander Li Zhun ordered Feiying to expel Japanese occupants from an island. The Qing government reaffirmed its sovereignty over the islands through diplomatic channels and obtained compensation and overdue tax payments. Following this, Li Zhun led multiple naval patrols in the South China Sea, maintaining Chinese cemeteries, rebuilding temples and monuments, and conducting island naming and mapping efforts. Among his expedition members were a German and a Danish radio engineer, who planned to establish a regional radio station.

After 1916, Feiying took part in China's internal conflicts and remained active in the southern waters. The vessel was bombed and sunk by aircraft near Hainan Island in 1932.

This is a ship model developed by ModellbauRay Studio in 2025. It is a fully 3D-printed kit with copper tubes as masts. Before starting please read the general instructions first.
